Who Murdered Barry Marquart of Binghamton?

Barry Marquart of Binghamton was murdered almost 36-years ago and to this day, his killer remains unknown.

In the evening of November 9, 1980, Barry’s father contacted the New York State Police in Oneonta to notify them that Barry’s roommate had reached out to let him know he’d not seen Barry since November 7th and that he was concerned. The New York State Police in turn informed the Binghamton Police Department of the missing person case, and that same day- November 9, 1980, Barry’s car was located, and so was his body.

Barry’s car was found parked at the exit 5 rest area on I-81 north and police say that there was no sign of foul play regarding his car. The rest area where Barry’s car was found parked doesn’t exist anymore as it was closed and the land was absorbed by Otsiningo Park when the park expanded. This is the location where Barry’s body was found-

Barry’s wallet was found in Otsiningo Park and his body was found in the shallow water of the Chanango River, only about 500 feet from the rest area where he car was parked. An autopsy determined that Barry had drowned, but it also stated that he had injuries from blows to his face and head, making it appear that his death was due to homicide.

Police have followed many leads through the years, but Barry’s case still remains open.
