You are sitting at a restaurant or on a park bench and you hear someone on their cell phone. We get annoyed, but why? It's no different then if they were talking to another person sitting there.

Researchers have figured out why. According to HealthDay News, when we hear just one side of the conversation, it is far more distracting than when we hear both sides. It prevents our ability to pay attention to other tasks.

We have an innate ability to ignore things that are predictable.

I actually use the 'fake phone call' so I don't have to talk to someone so I am glad no one can hear the other end of the conversation on my phone.
