After one, two or six drinks, you can crawl into bed and fall asleep before your head hits the pillow, but after a few hours of sleep, you find yourself wide awake. Why is that? Bustle has an explanation for that.

It is a cruel irony because if you forgot to take some ibuprofen before bed then your head is probably pounding. A study has shown that alcohol makes you drowsy, and will help you sleep better if you have one, only one, before bed. After two drinks, alcohol disrupts your sleep patterns.

Alcohol is a drug and your body has to adjust itself for the effects when it enters your body. Then after, when the alcohol is all metabolized a few hours later, your body is all out of whack because of these adaptations that your body has to make.

So not only are you more likely to wake up thanks to the rebound effects of the alcohol, but you're also missing out on REM sleep, the most restorative stage of the sleep cycle.

My best advice is to do shots at the beginning of the night, and avoid tossing them back at last call, so that you can give your body enough time to metabolize the alcohol before you go to bed.
