Will Ariana Grande Return to Broadway in Wicked?
Ariana Grande got her start on Broadway in Jason Robert Brown's 13. But might she return?
The still somewhat sketchy report came from an unnamed source quoted in The Sun, which indicates she'll take over the role of Elphaba in Wicked on Broadway from Jackie Burns.
A lot of it makes sense. The Sun points out that in a recent episode of Carpool Karaoke, Ariana basically called Elphaba her dream role after belting out Suddenly Seymour from Little Shop of Horrors. Anyone who knows Grande's history will tell you she never really shook her love of Broadway. She asked Broadway composer Jason Robert Brown to write a track off her last album and has appeared singing stuff from his musicals multiple times.
Should be a tough ticket to get if it all works out.
Binghamton has its own connection to Wicked. Former DT Bing-dweller Ginna Claire Mason is currently playing Glinda the Good in the show's national tour--right now in Memphis.
Before the tour, Mason was a standby for the same role on Broadway. Check out a video of her singing at The Shop downtown:
