Everyone knows about addiction. There’s drug addiction, food addiction, alcohol addiction. But what about the addictions nobody talks about? As it turns out, job addiction is a very real and very harmful thing.

It’s really easy to get wrapped up in work, especially as there’s more and more pressure to juggle more duties because of downsizing and the constant fear of being fired and replaced with someone who’d be more than happy to do the job for less pay.

Researchers at the University of Bergen in Norway have discovered that about 8% of people are hardcore workaholics, which means they're completely and totally obsessed with what we do for a living. If you think being a workaholic doesn't do much more than drain your energy and make you tired, think again.

The research actually found that being a workaholic can make things like ADHD, anxiety and depression even worse.

This isn't a new problem either. In 1968, psychologist Wayne E. Oates coined the phrase as a way to describe his obsession with work.  Work addiction is more "socially acceptable than that of an alcoholic’s addiction," he wrote. But, it's just as destructive.

Do you wonder if you're a workaholic?  According to the Huffington Post, you should take a look at the statements below and if you answer "yes" to at least five of them, you fall into the workaholic category:
1. You try to find ways to come up with more time to work.
2. You work to reduce anxiety, helplessness or depression.
3. You get stressed out if you’re not allowed to work
4. You ignore hobbies, relaxation and/or exercise because of work.
5. You’ve been told by others that you need to cut back on work, but don’t listen.

Help is available if you're a workaholic and want to reclaim your life. There's no shame in reaching out to at least find out how you can reclaim your life before something awful happens.
