When I got my dog at age ten, I had no idea just how much responsibility comes with owning a pet. Walking them every day is something a lot of us forget to do, but Bustle says that this is incredibly important for a number of reasons.

  • They don't get enough exercise (and frankly neither do most of us humans, too). In order to be healthy and happy, dogs need to run around and work off some of their energy.
  • They get bored which can lead to behaviors that are less than ideal like clawing at the furniture and pulling apart pillows. Taking them for a walk will tire them out, so they don't have any desire to destroy your things!
  • They learn to be more social when you take them outside of the house where other people and dogs exist. They'll act out when friends and family come to the house if they are never exposed to other, unfamiliar faces. Taking them for a walk can help them learn how to behave around new people.

Taking your dog for a walk every day might seem like an annoying chore, but it is so, so important for your pet. If you want them to be happy and healthy, you need to make the time to take them out for a walk every day.
