Following a number of late appearances and previous cancelled performances, Zayn Malik has pulled out of the 2016 CapitalFM Summertime Ball due to anxiety.

The "Pillowtalk" singer, who was due to perform this evening (June 11) in London, announced the cancellation earlier today via a statement on Instagram, apologizing to his fans and citing "the worst anxiety of his career" for pulling out of the event.

"To all those people who have been waiting to see me perform at the Capital Summertime Ball today…I flew into the UK last night to appear in my home country in front of my family, friends and most importantly, my UK fans," Zayn wrote.

"Unfortunately, my anxiety that has haunted me throughout the last few months around live performances has gotten the better of me…with the magnitude of the event, I have suffered the worst anxiety of my career. I cannot apologize enough, but I want to be honest with everyone who has patiently waited to see me. I promise I will do my best to make this up to everybody I’ve let down today."

Overall, fans have been understanding and empathetic on Twitter, expressing their support for the pop star and well wishes for his health:

Back in May, Zayn was noticeably late for his performance on The Voice, missing a planned dress rehearsal. Thankfully, the singer made it in time for his live televised performance.
