Someone once said, "The early bird gets the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese!" You don't have to actually be smart to appear smart.

Here are some tricks to help us seem smarter than we are.

People use speed of movement to infer the presence of mind...in other persons.

Social science research has found that it's more about sending the right signals to people. Some things that you can do to make you appear smarter are walk the same speed as everyone else. According to findings, people use speed of movement to infer the presence of mind...in other persons.

In other words, if you walk slower or faster than people around you, they will think you are stupid.

Thick glasses make people seem more intelligent.

Another big one is how you speak. Leonard Mlodinow, who is the author of, Subbliminal: How Your Unconscious Mind Rules Your Behavior says, "Expressive speech, with modulation in pitch and volume, and minimum of noticeable pauses, boosts credibility and enhances the impression of intelligence."

Looking people in the eye when you talk to them is huge in perceived smartness.

I have said for years, that it's all about image and confidence. Do you have any tips to add to this list of things to make you appear smarter?
