NFL Players Sing Their Favorite Beyonce Jams [Video]

Between the presidential inauguration and the Super Bowl, 2013 is shaping up to be the year we can’t have a major event without Beyonce showing up to sing — and that’s just fine with the NFL players interviewed for a new clip promoting her appearance at the halftime show during Sunday’s (Feb. 3) big game.

A long list of football stars were interviewed about Beyonce, with some going so far as to attempt a cappella versions of some of her biggest hits; 49ers tight end Vernon Davis, for example, busted out with a few lines of ‘Single Ladies’ before cracking up and saying, “Don’t tell my teammates I did that.” Most, however, weren’t as daring as Davis — as 49er linebacker Patrick Willis put it, “I don’t know man — that’s Beyonce. I can’t top that.”

That didn’t stop the players from singing her praises in a different way. Cowboys tight end Jason Witten remarked, “Every time Beyonce sings, I think it’s pretty amazing,” and Chiefs safety Eric Berry added, “She makes good music, she’s beautiful … she’s the female version of Michael Jackson.”

Browns receiver and return man Josh Cribbs went a step further, sharing his fondness for Beyonce’s ‘Dance for You’ by saying, “That song portrays how a woman should feel about her man. That’s what I keep trying to instill in my wife: ‘Look, this is the outline for all you women out there.’”

We can be sure Cribbs will be watching from home during the Super Bowl. The players for the 49ers and Ravens won’t be so lucky, however; as receiver Torrey Smith grinned toward the end of the clip, “I’m just mad we can’t watch the halftime show.” But that may not stop his teammate Terrell Suggs: “I’m a big Beyonce fan… I’ll be out there,” he quipped. “Maybe one of the backup dancers.”
